Experienced hikers, fisherman and outdoor enthusiasts are familiar with packaging food supplies for their trips. But to a novice, there are a few tips and things you should know about storing your jerky for a few nights out in the wilderness, or at the KOA.
The texture of Jerky can be changed by moisture so if you are going to be outdoors or by water, store your jerky in additional resealable sturdy plastic bags. Make sure to remove all of the additional air from the bags before sealing so the integrity of the jerky is maintained. Then place the bag into an another dark waterproof bag so the moisture, light and the bugs stay out.
If you are out for a day hike or on the lake fishing, it is wise to do the same thing as your pack could easily get wet and damage your food source. Protecting your food and water is a priority when out in the elements as anything could happen and you could be delayed from returning on time. Staying warm, dry and having energy from food can make a big difference.
Take a few extra cautionary steps when packing your food and jerky for your next trip. You will be glad you did. You know what they say, Always be Prepared!
